Demand for eggs in the Kumasi markets have completely depreciated.

Sellers say the low demand is as a result of the hikes in prices of the poultry eggs.

Some traders at Kumasi Dr Mensah told SoireeNews 24 that, the egg business is no more lucrative for the reason that consumers are not purchasing their products due to the inflation in prices.

A retailer, Sister Gladys declared that consumers are no more interested in buying eggs again.

“They won't buy an egg for Ghc 1.20," she said.

A wholesaler at Adum, Akua Afriyie also said, "my sales have completely depreciated because most of my customers have suspended the business due to the high prices of the eggs.”

Last year 2020, traders sold crates of eggs at Ghc10, Ghc15 and Ghc 20 depending on the size of the eggs, whilst consumers bought egg at 70 Pesewas and Ghc 1 respectively.

However, crates of eggs this year are currently selling at GHC20, GHc 24, and GHc 27 depending on the sizes of the eggs, whilst an egg is selling at Ghc 1.20 on the market.

Meanwhile, Poultry farmers in the region are blaming the current appreciation of eggs prices on the hikes of poultry feeds and other inputs on the international market.

But Mama Agnes, CEO of SAMTAK Farms at Nkronza- Kumasi has assured that prices of eggs could go down if prices of Poultry feeds abruptly decline.
