Breaking News: Tension Mounts In Upper East NDC Over Alleged Plot To Disqualify Duncan Nsoh Ghaneba From Chairmanship Race
The dispute follows allegations that Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba, is trying to influence the vetting committee led by vetting committee led by Mr Malik Basintale to disqualify a rival chairmanship aspirant, Duncan Nsoh Ghaneba.
An attempt by incumbent Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region who is seeking for re-election, Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba to influence the vetting committee to intent to disqualify an aspiring chairman of the NDC, Mr Duncan Nsoh Ghaneba from the chairmanship race has sparked tension in the Upper East NDC.
Tension is brewing at the Upper East Regional office of the NDC during the ongoing vetting of 51 regional executives.
The dispute follows allegations that Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba, is trying to influence the vetting committee led by vetting committee led by Mr Malik Basintale to intent to disqualify a rival chairmanship asaspirant, Mr Duncan Nsoh Ghaneba.
A heated argument broke out at the vetting grounds on Friday, October 16, 2026, when the vetting committee demanded that Mr. Ghaneba serve as an executive member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before qualifying to contest for the Upper East Regional Chairmanship on the party's ticket.
Grassroots supporters and NDC members in the Upper East Region stated that the aspiring regional chairman, Mr. Ghaneba, responded to the vetting committee by pointing out that no such policy exists in the NDC constitution.
They highlighted that Mr. Ghaneba is a dedicated PDC, CDR, and cadre member who began working to build the NDC as far back as 1991 during his university days.
Maintaining that Mr. Ghaneba is a founding member of the NDC, they noted there is factual evidence of his extensive work recruiting supporters across universities and recommending them to the party—many of whom have since become Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs).
Furthermore, they noted that Mr. Ghaneba has previously served as a polling station executive.
Consequently, supporters are questioning why the incumbent Upper East Regional Chairman, Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba—allegedly out of fear of losing his position to Mr. Ghaneba—is orchestrating a plot with the vetting committee to disqualify him.
This disqualification is reportedly based on the claim that a candidate must already be a regional executive member.
To maintain peace and stability, the grassroots base of the NDC in the region is calling on the national leadership to intervene immediately.
They want leadership to stop the vetting committee, led by Mr. Malik Basintale, from unfairly disqualifying Mr. Ghaneba so that his name can appear on the ballot for the Upper East Regional NDC chairmanship race.
'We want peace and unity in the Upper East Region NDC. We are calling on the party leadership led by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and Mr Fifii Fiavi Kwettey to advise Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba to allow healthy competition.
"If he truly claims to have worked for the progress of the NDC across all 15 constituencies and deserves another term after 20 years in office, he should stop trying to influence the vetting committee to disqualify his main opponent, Mr Ghaneba," the grassroots warned."
