Togbe Hordze II Promises Investment---To Drive Mepe United's Push for Top-Flight Promotion

A respected and gazetted sub-divisional chief and philanthropist in the Mepe Traditional Area of the North Tongu District of Ghana's Volta Region, Torgbe Kordzo Hodze II, has received a citation from the management of Mepe United Football Club in recognition of his adoption of the club in 2025.

In his acceptance address, Torgbe Kordzo Hodze II, who serves as a patron of the team, pledged his commitment to pushing Mepe United Football Club's bid for a Ghana Premier League spot.

The chief further indicated his readiness to invest in various sporting disciplines throughout the traditional area.

Togbe Hordze II has officially adopted the Mepe United Football Club, providing substantial financial and logistical support since 2025.

According to the Treasurer of the Club, Mr. Ametornyo Bartels Glih , Togbe Hordze II is now the patron of Mepe United Football Club.

The club was originally established in 2011 by founding members, including Korsivi Bosomprah, Amanatey Dusi, and Mr. S.K. Setordzi.

Although it had previously collapsed, the club was revived in 2017 through instrumental efforts of Mr. Glih Ametornyo, Mr. M.C. Mordzifa Agor, and others."

Mr. Ametornyo commended Togbe Hordze II for his courage in stepping in as a sponsor.

Since the chief took over, the players have shown tremendous performance improvements, and their overall welfare has greatly improved.

He highlighted that Togbe Hordze II has invested heavily in the team by providing ten footballs, thirty playing balls, and twenty sets of jerseys ordered from London.

Furthermore, he disclosed that the chief spends GH¢ 1,000 every week to cover the players' travel expenses during away matches.

Mr. Glih Ametornyo has also expressed profound gratitude to the traders and women of the Mepe Adzigor Torkor Mini Market for their unwavering support of the players housed in the Mepe township.

According to him, these women frequently mobilized food and other items for the athletes, especially those from neighboring communities who were accommodated to play for the Mepe United Football Club.

Mr Glih noted that the club recently played 17 matches in the 2025–2026 season of the Volta Regional Division Two League (Southern Sector B).

To help tackle the team's challenges and establish solid management, he indicated that Togbe Hordze II has pledged to engage directly with the players and management.

According to Mr Glih, Togbe Hordze II has also assured them of further investments in the coming season, with the ultimate goal of helping the team earn a promotion to the Ghana Premier League.

Historically, since its establishment, Mepe United has consistently finished in fourth place on the league table.

The chief is determined to break this record in upcoming seasons by investing in new talent from outside communities.

Meanwhile, Mr. Glih expressed disappointment over the persistent refusal of talented local players in the Mepe Traditional Area to join Mepe United.

"Because Mepe United is the only club in the area that has reached the Division Two level, management is actively planning to engage the owners of the seven other local football teams.

"The goal is to allow these talented local players to join Mepe United and elevate the status of Mepe on the national stage," Mr Glih Ametornyo revealed.

To boost the team's prospects, the club has appointed a new coaching staff. Mr. Elliott Ayidzi, who previously coached a Division Three side, has been brought in as the new head coach.

He is assisted by Mr. Anane Xortorku, a former captain of Mepe United. Management hopes their combined experience will transform the team's on-field performance.

Historically, Mepe United has served as a great talent pipeline, producing players for clubs such as Kwabibirim FC and Akosombo Christian Palace.

Most notably, a former player helped Ashanti Goldfields Football Club qualify for the Ghana Premier League.

With an abundance of raw talent on the current roster, Mr. Glih is calling on managers from the First Division and the Ghana Premier League to scout and recruit their players.
