Students Urged to be Strategic and Innovative-Vice Chancellor of UMAT.

The Vice Chancellor for the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT), Professor Richard Kwesi Amankwa has charged students of the University to be strategic and innovative to meet the sustainable development
 goals in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor made this statement at Tarkwa in the Western Region during the launch of the University's career innovation fair that includes an innovation competition to mark its 70th-anniversary celebration.

He explained that the career and innovative fair is part of  the core values of the University to ensure students exhibit their innovative skills in commercial ventures

The Vice Chancellor however highlighted other things the University is doing to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“As far as the sustainable development goals are concerned, based on our mandate, we have settled on about nine of the SDGs, and we believe that if we make inroads in reducing poverty through small-scale mining, we increase access to education, especially for females.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the University started in 1952 with 0.2% of female education in the mid-90s, but we are 25% now, and we envisage that we shall get to 40% shortly,“ he added.

He said he believes with time the University with its core mandate of mining education and technology will produce innovators and strategic products to solve pressing problems in the country's technological environment.
