Parliament reconvenes today to consider some 82 bills

The first meeting of the eighth session of parliament resumes today, with 82 Bills awaiting consideration.

In a letter which reads: “The First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 8th Parliament is scheduled to reconvene today, Tuesday, 6th February, 2024 at 10:00 am prompt. 82 Bills are expected to be presented to the legislative House.

Among the bills to be considered by parliament are; • Presidential Transition (Amendment) Bill,2024.

• Aged Persons Bill, 2023

• Advertising Council Bill, 2023

• Consumer Protection Bill, 2023

• Public University Bill, 2023

• Ghana Road Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2023

• Ghana Roads Authority Bill, 2023 Twelve (12) Bills are currently at the Committee level and are expected to be considered during this meeting.

Among them are;

• Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill,

2023 (Committee on Gender and Children)

• Social Protection Bill, 2023(Committee on Gender and Children)

• Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (Amendment) Bill 2023 (Finance Committee)

• Environmental Protection Bill, 2023 (Committee on Environment, Science and Technology) Private Members’ Bills

• Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill, 2021(Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs)

• Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2023 (Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Embarked Funds Capping and Realignment (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (Finance Committee)

• Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs)

The Ghana Industry Property Office Bill, 2023 which is with the Committee on Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, will be read a Second time.

The Chartered Institute of Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners, Ghana Bill, 2023 which is with the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, will be read a Second time.

The Grains Development Authority Bill, 2022, Budget Bill, 2023, and the Rent Bill, 2023 will be read for the second time.

Consideration Stage Two Bills, the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bills, and the Intestate Succession Bills, which are at the consideration stages will be considered by the House.

A total of seventy-one instruments will also be presented to the House.

Papers to be presented A total of one hundred and two papers will be presented to the House during the meeting.

Sixty-five other indicative papers will be presented to the House.

There are also Instruments at various stages to be presented before the House.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker will admit Papers, Petitions, Motions for Debates and Questions to be answered by sector Ministers during this meeting.

The House is estimated to sit for eight weeks All Honourable Members are entreated to take note and attend upon the House timeously.
