Some members of the Anti–Armed Robbery squad deployed to the Eastern Region by the Acting Inspector General of Police Dr Akuffo Dampare have suffered injuries after they came under attack by highway robbers on AKyem Ettukrom to Bunso road in Abuakwa North Municipality in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The robbers fully armed with AK47 were on the road robbing commuters but the Police vehicle onboard by the police Personnel being transported to their Operational area bumped into their robbery Operation.

The robbers upon seeing the vehicle opened fire into the vehicle through the windshield.

The Police officers who were taken by surprise took cover and returned fire.

The gunfire exchange lasted for few minutes but the robbers fled into the bush after some reportedly sustained injuries.

Some of the police officers also sustained injuries from the broken windshield while others injuries were the exchanges of gunfire with the Armed Robbers.

The police patrol team moved to the scene, combed the bush but nobody was found.

The Police further mounted a search in nearby houses and some health facilities but could not arrest any of the suspects

Police upon scrutinized search retrieved five spent shells of AK 47 rifle.

The team of police personnel who were injured during the exchanges of gunfire and the broken windscreen were treated and discharged on the same day, according to the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Directorate.
