Gifty Arthur lured the church members of Apostolic Church-Ghana in Asuaba has defrauded them of ¢2,500.00 and later went at large.

A 38-year-old woman, Gifty Arthur has been convicted to 90 days imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding by false pretence, contrary to section 131 of criminal offences Act 29/60 by the Asamankese Circuit Court.

Gifty Arthur, the accused pleaded guilty and was convicted on her plea when she appeared before the court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

Sargent Samuel Owusu, the Police Prosecutor, told the court that the complainants, in this case, had been a member of the Apostolic Church-Ghana in Asuaba, near Adeiso, while the accused is a trader from Kumasi-Kwadaso.

He said on 08/08/2021, at about 10:00 am, the complainants were having church service and the accused person joined them and introduced herself as a philanthropist who gives loans to people in need.

The complainants showed interest and paid various sums of monies totalling ¢2,500.00 to the accused person then went at large after receiving the money.

The prosecution statement said the accused went into hiding, but on 28/08/2021, a member of the church spotted her at Suhum and alerted the Police to make the arrest. She was later transferred to Adeiso police station for further investigations.

Upon thorough Interrogation, the accused admitted to the offence on the charge sheet and was arraigned before court for prosecution.
