The Wenchi Municipal Assembly through the Department of Social Welfare has issued cheques worth GH¢ 17,000 to persons living with disabilities in the municipality

The beneficiaries received cheques ranging from GH¢ 500 to GH¢ 1,000, primarily to cater for their educational needs and medical expenses.

The amount was from three per cent to the Persons Living With Disabilities of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Speaking at a short ceremony to present the cheques to the beneficiaries, the Municipal Chief Executive of Wenchi Municipal Assembly, Honourable Alexander Obour Damoah said, the movie was in fulfilment of the government's responsibility to support persons living with disabilities in the country.

He admonished the beneficiaries to use the money for its intended purpose and assured them that the next trench would go into the economic needs of PWDS in the municipality.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Vice President of the Wenchi branch of the Ghana Federation of Persons With Disabilities,  Honorable Ofosu Ameyaw Richard, commended the government and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly for their continuous support to the persons living with disabilities.

He also appealed to the government to release the District Assemblies Common Fund on time to ensure smooth disbursement from the Assemblies to PWDS.
