Abandoned Adjen Kotoku Market

A 95 storerooms market constructed at Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal Assembly (Amasaman constituency) in the Greater Accra Region by the late President  Mills has been abandoned in a state of shock.

The market was accompanied by social amenities such as a Medical centre, Police station, fire station and a Senior High School which are all in use with the exception of the market.

Speaking to the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Clement Wilkinson, the Assembly and the stake Holders have allocated the storerooms to the people with the appropriate fees yet waiting for the store owners to finish renovation and fill the shops with the goods to be sold before handing over.

According to the MCE, there are still talks ongoing with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to make the market the centre for wholesale of Yam, Onion and other foodstuffs so that, the smaller vehicle will distribute the foodstuffs to the city of Accra.

Originally, the market was build to accommodate the settlers of Old Fadama popularly called Sodom and Gomora which was demolished but the chiefs and people of Adjen Kotoku did not welcome the idea because of the truant behaviours of the people living in Old Fadama.

The then Mayor of Accra, Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije; and then Metropolitan Chief Executive of Ga West, Mr Nii Armah Tackie, Mr Ewan Terblanche, the project manager, said the project commenced in June 2008 and was successfully completed in November, 2011.29 Jun 2015.
