Sudan fighting a tragedy and mockery of Africa - Museveni

Speaking to the regional African organization Igad (discussed in our previous story), President Museveni declared on Sunday, "We cannot keep covering up the mistakes of unprincipled politics year after year."

Yoweri Museveni, president of Uganda, has denounced the "misuse of force" in the Sudan conflict and stated that the recent escalation of fighting threatens to undo all the progress that had been accomplished via communication.

An "unconditional and immediate cessation of hostilities is of the utmost importance" to stop the tragedy and ridicule of Africa, according to Museveni, who was one of the negotiators of the Sudan crisis.

He declared that even violence had to be done for a just cause and accused Sudanese officials of making what he called "ideological and strategic governance errors."

The leader of Uganda argued that an election should serve as the final arbiter of Sudan's political dilemma.

The creation of a new transitional administration led by civilians had been made progress by the two competing military groups in Sudan in recent months.

However, the groups couldn't agree on a number of topics, including when the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) would be integrated into the regular army.

Political negotiations that were supposed to restore civilian government by April 11 were postponed by the divisions.
