Miss Yaa Asantewaa 2019 Beauty Pageant to KICK OFF Soon - Forms AVAILABLE

Obaa Yaa Asantewaa was a female proud warrior and the queen mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empire now part of the modern day Ghana.

She was born on October 17, 1840 to Opanin Kwaku Ampoma and Ata Po from Ejisu Besease into the family of traditional rulers. Her brother Nana Akwesi Afrane Opese, the Edwesuhene or ruler of Edwesu, appointed her hence her allegiance to the Ashanti Empire.

Obaa Yaa Asantewaa fought in the war of the golden stool and was captured and taken to Seychelles where she died in October 17th 1921. Yaa Asantewaa’s story of bravery and fearlessness is woven into the history of Ghana and plays a significant role when the record of courageousness is addressed in Ghana and beyond.

The story of Yaa Asantewaa is the greatest of them all that needs to be safeguarded by all as part of our rich Ghanaian history and culture.
