IT HAS emerged that more than 890 houses have been submerged in water and over 3,000 people rendered homeless, following heavy rains that hit the Juapong and its adjoining communities in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region on Saturday 29, 2024.
In an interview with Soireenews.com, some of the residents complained that the community started flooding from1:30 pm as a result of heavy rains.
The residents noted that majority of the houses in the Joupong and its surrounding communities have become inaccessible with the Juapong-Accra main road also at risk rendering travellers, particularly those from funerals stranded on the road.
They lamented that the 7-hour downpour also led to the collapse of some makeshift houses in the area.
They disclosed that currently many of the affected were perching with friends and families, whiles other were sleeping in school buildings and churches.
They also called on the NGOs, philanthropists, civil service organisations, natives and indigenes of the area to come to the aid of the victims.
