Nkwanta South People with Disability Chairman Urge Government to Increase the Disability Fund.

The Chairperson for persons with disability in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, Mr. Issac Gbande has called on the government to increase their part of the common fund for persons living with disability (PWDs) from 3 percent to 5 percent to enable them to cater for more of their members.

According to him, the money is not enough for most of their members to benefit from it thus making it difficult for them as leaders to handle the situation hence the call for increment.

He also uses the opportunity to appeal to the general public to stop calling persons living with disability names such as (POZO) because it makes them feel like they are not part of society but they should rather encourage them to know that disability is not an inability.

An amount of a hundred thousand Ghana cedis was disbursed and several hundred persons benefited from the money.

Some of the Disable persons took home monies ranging from five hundred to three thousand Ghana cedis.

In attendance was the Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South Constituency Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Kini also thanked the assembly and social welfare department for that initiative but urged the beneficiaries to make use of the money for what it's meant for it to help them from hardship life.

He added, that although the money is not enough if they use it well, it will go a long way to benefit them.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the social welfare workers and the Assembly for supporting them to cater for themselves.
