Nollywood star Femi Adebayo has voiced his concern about the rising tide of film piracy in Nigeria.

Taking to his Instagram page, @femiadebayosalami, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Adebayo shared his recent experience battling piracy and emerging victorious.

He emphasized that the film industry's potential profits are being undermined by the illegal actions of movie pirates.

Adebayo stated: "Despite the tremendous growth of the Nigerian film industry, we're unable to fully reap its rewards due to the actions of daring pirates who profit unfairly."

"This is a significant deterrent for investors looking to support filmmakers. However, through persistence and utilizing intellectual property laws, we can combat piracy."

Adebayo recounted his own encounters with movie pirates, highlighting a recent legal dispute with a prominent media company that utilized his movie's title and poster to promote another film on their platform during the cinema release of "Survival of Jelili" in 2019.

"It took three years, but with unwavering trust in the legal system and the dedication of our legal team, we emerged victorious," Adebayo explained.

He emphasized that his victory isn't just personal but a win for the entire Nollywood community.

Adebayo stressed the importance of filmmakers actively fighting against intellectual property theft and piracy to safeguard their creative works and ensure they receive their rightful economic value.
