National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for North Tongu Constituency, Mr. C.K. Akaho-Tay, is calling for an effective collaboration on his part and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) office holders to come together and discuss how to employ pragmatic measures to solve pressing problems affecting the development in the district.

.
The North Tongu NDC Chairman made the call while he was speaking at a mini-durbar of chiefs and people of Mepe.
The mini-durbar is annual activity marking the beginning of the main Afenorto Festival of the chiefs and people of Mepe Traditional Area which usually falls on the first week in every year in August.
This historical event is being organised by the Mepe Development Association (MDA) under the auspices of the Mepe Traditional Council.

However, this year's Afenorto Festival, which was on the theme: "TVET Education, Our Future; Development in Peace, Our Cultural Heritage," is slated for Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Mepe Presbyterian Junior High School (SHS) park.
The celebration, which is the 66th in its series, is celebrated annually to renew the sense of unity of the chiefs and people of Mepe, a farming community in the region.
According to Akaho-Tay, who is a famous development-oriented person, he believes that the collaboration between officers of these two political parties will help solve the many problems plaguing Mepe.

He maintained that it was about time all and sundry realised in North Tongu there was no NPP and NDC when it comes to the development and welfare of "our people."
He pointed out that all the leaders of the various political parties in the constituency, particularly the chairmen of the political parties, have agreed that they are not going to use the radio or television platforms to disgrace themselves for anybody’s interest.
"We all know that the DCE of the North Tongu District Assembly didn't have control over the Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, so there are a lot of things that we have to do to ensure that we find solutions to our pressing problems," he noted.
"For instance, we have to come together to find solutions on how to solicit fund to fix the bad nature of the Mafi-Dove road linking Accra-Sogakope-highway and also the bad road linking the Sogakope-Mafi Dove junction to Mepe township.
"It is very important for us to come together to see how we lobby for the re-construction of our major death trap road which is the Sege-Battor Aveyime-Mepe road," he advised..
The North Tongu NDC chairman held the view that the two districts which are North and Central Tongu have to use part of their internally generated revenue from the tolls they are collecting from heavy duty vehicles to fix or do maintenance works on these roads.

According to him, the winning of river sand from Battor, Aveyime and Mepe with the use of heavy duty vehicles such as 20 to 30 cubic vehicles cutting the sand from Mepe and Battor to Tema and Accra enclaves were the main causes of the deplorable nature of these roads.
He pointed out the Sege-Battor Aveyime-Mepe road was originally built in 1995 for light duty vehicles, saying that due the deplorable nature of that stretch of the road, a journey from Sege to Battor which takes 15 minutes now takes over an hour or more.
"Mepe-Aflao road takes 15-20 minutes, but now it takes over an hour. We want the DCEs in both the North and the Central Tongu and the MPs in addition to the Constituency Chairmen of both the NPP and the NDC parties to come together to address one of the most important needs of the two districts," he stressed.

He added that; "during the national election before we know that we are different political parties but after the election we all have to come together to discuss how best we can help to solve our social problems which are adversely affecting development in the district."
"For instance, we have to come together to find solution on how to solicit fund to fix the bad nature of the road at Mafi-Dove linking Accra-Sogakope-Highway and also the bad road linking the Sogakope-Mafi Dove junction to Mepe township.
"It is very important for us to come together to see how we lobby for the re-construction of our major death trap road which the Sege-Battor Aveyime-Mepe road," he suggested.

Mr Akaho-Tay asserted that; We want to tell the leadership of the NPP in the North Tongu constituency that should in case somebody has sowed a shirt for you and it happens that the buttons of the shirt have spoiled, you may have to find means and ways to fix the buttons to your sheet yourselves.
"So if the NDC has done some roads infrastructure projects in the various communities within the constituency and there have been problems on the projects, we are pleading with them to institute contingency measures to fix those problems," Mr Akaho-Tay stressed.

He stated emphatically that the current leadership of the NPP in the area to institute measures to fix the deplorable nature of the existing roads, particularly the roads from Sogakope -Mafi Dove junction to Mepe and also the one from Sege to Aveyime-Battor- Mepe.
