Dormaa West District  Assembly Donates 5000  Oil Palm Seedlings To Farmers

The District Chief Executive (DCE)  Dormaa West District Assembly in the Bono Region, Mr Francis Kwadwo Oppong, on behalf of the assembly donated 5000 oil palm seedlings  to farmers in the district to boost their farming activities.

It may be recalled that, President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo -Addo launched a programme under Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) dubbed Planting for Export and Rural Development, (PERD) to help farmers in their farming business.

The Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme is a decentralized National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve household incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support and regulatory mechanisms.

To create a legacy towards the realization of the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda, the Government of Ghana through the joint effort by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Ministry of Food and Agriculture, rolled out the PERD programme to develop nine (9) commodity value chains namely Cashew, Coffee, Cotton Coconut, Citrus, Oil Palm, Mango, Rubber and Shea through a decentralised system.

The Dormaa West District Assembly has therefore selected Oil palm to give to its farmers under the PERD programme.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Francis Kwadwo Oppong noted that the initiative by government would not only create job opportunities but to also encourage the youth into agriculture as well as ensure the supply of raw materials to support government’s decentralized industrialization through the One District, One Factory initiative.

Donating the seedlings to the farmers, Hon. Francis K. Oppong charged the farmers to go and plant the seedlings and ensure that, it becomes beneficial to them. He every registered farmer was entitled to 60 seedlings.( one acre of land).
