Following a shooting in the city, Louisville, Kentucky, police have verified "multiple casualties."

According to a tweet from the Louisville Metro Police Department, they were responding to a "active aggressor." The general public has been asked to avoid a section of East Main.

A commercial facility in the neighborhood appears to be cordoned off in video from the scene by heavily armed police.

A press conference by the police is scheduled to start shortly.

In news footage from the incident, there are numerous police officers there, along with broken glass and abandoned medical supplies in one area.

Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky, posted on Twitter that he was on his way to the shooting scene.

Please pray for the city of Louisville and all the affected families, he said.

Craig Greenberg, the city's mayor, also traveled to the scene shortly after the incident.

The incident took place in Louisville's downtown region, near to the baseball stadium Louisville Slugger Field and a few blocks from the Muhammad Ali Center and Kentucky International Convention Centre.

"I was at the stoplight, and the first thing that I saw - there was a guy across the street at the intersection and he was lying down at the entrance to a hotel," an eyewitness told local Fox affiliate WDRB.
