I'm Not The Paramount Chief Of Eastern Nzema-Self Styled Chief, Berenger Aka Flanton, Confesses 

Berenger Aka Flanton styling himself as Eastern Nzema Paramoount Chief with stool name Awulae Blay IXhas confessed through an Affidavit that he is not the Paramount chief of Eastern Nzema. 

In the The Republic v. Berenger Aka Flanton, Ex-Parte Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III with Suit No. E9/46/26 — High Court, Sekondi, Berenger Aka Flanton, who styles himself as Awulae Blay IX, filed an Affidavit in Opposition in the contempt proceedings pending before the High Court in Sekondi.

In his own affidavit, Flanton states in paragraph 5 that:

“I never acted or styled myself as the paramount chief of Eastern Nzema or performed the role of President of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.”

In paragraph 6, he further contends that the position of President of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council requires gazette notification and entry into the National Register of Chiefs.

However, in paragraph 23, Flanton states that he was installed under the stool name Awulae Blay IX and performed the customary functions of his office as Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema.

He goes further in paragraph 24, stating that Awulae Blay IX is his stool name upon his installation and referring to the customary rites associated with his office of Paramount Chief of Eastern Nzema.

These statements raise a fundamental question: If, as stated in paragraph 5, he never acted or styled himself as Paramount Chief, why does he subsequently state that he was installed and performed the customary functions of the office of Paramount Chief?

The affidavit also contains another significant statement.

In paragraph 33, Flanton states that he has never held himself out as President of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council or prevented Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III from performing his role as President of the Council.

The statements are contained in an affidavit filed by Flanton himself in the contempt proceedings.
