Government Is Committed To  Resort Magnetic Resonance Imaging Machines Across The Country

The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has indicated that government is committed to resort Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines in all government hospital across the country.

In his response to an urgent Parliamentary question filed by Mr James Avedzi Kluste, who sought to know the number of functional magnetic resonance imaging machines in government hospital and also steps to increase the numbers.

Mr Agyeman-Manu stated categorically that, the country has only 7 MRI machines out of which four are functioning .

Giving details of the status of the functionality, the the health minister noted that those functional magnetic resonance imaging machines are working in university of Ghana medical center, Korle-Bu teaching hospital and Greater Accra Regional hospital.

He disclosed that Komfo- Anokye Teaching Hospital MRI has gone down for the past one week and waiting for replacement with effective component.

The minister further explained that the non functional ones are located in Tamale teaching hospital, Cape Coast hospital and Ho hospital.

According to him, the proposal of the repairs of the machines on the accumulated cost does not convinced the ministry of the success after commiting the funds required for the request.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the body uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It may be used to help diagnose or monitor treatment for a variety of conditions within the chest, abdomen, and pelvis.

The minister stated that effective and needy of these machines as country and its multiple damage of the MRI machines the ministry has advised not to bought this type of magnetic machines.
