Dr Segbefia Lauds President Mahama's Employment Reforms As A Game-Changer For Ordinary Citizens

Aspiring National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edem Segbefia,

has praised the labor and employment reforms introduced by President John Dramani Mahama's administration, framing them as a remarkable change that has transformed the nation's employment landscape and bettered the lives of everyday people.

Dr. Edem Segbefia argument with the political party grassroots representatives during an interactive visit to the North East and Upper East region, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has started reforming Ghana’s labour, job, and employment sector that was on total breakdown before the NDC took power in January 2025. 

Before Jan 2025, many Ghanaian households had skilled but unemployed children, workers were demoralized, and the informal majority was left behind, jobs were scarce, dignity at work was low, and trust in government to provide opportunities was broken. 

Mahama is fixing the labour and jobs sector by creating real employment, skills, and fair wages. Dr Edem Segbefia paired himself in changing the narrative and satisfied the following as success to establish his proof. 

President Mahama has focused on “jobs, dignity and growth” moving from promises to practical interventions to absorb Ghana’s youth and rebuild worker confidence.

Dr Edem Segbefia asserted that public sector recruitment and regularization mass recruitment into key sectors like Health, education, security, and sanitation. 

Thousands of nurses, teachers, and graduates who had been stuck on “awaiting clearance” have received appointment letters. Government prioritized clearing arrears and validating unpaid public sector workers to restore trust in public employment. 

Youth employment and Skills programs revamping youth employment agency and refocused on real skills, apprenticeship, and private sector placement instead of short-term political jobs.  

Expanded to cover auto mechanics, agro-processing, ICT, construction, fashion, and green jobs, with starter kits for graduates.

Dr Edem Segbefia admitted that partnerships with tech hubs to train youth in coding, data, and digital services for local and remote work. Incentives for factories, agro-processing plants, and logistics firms to operate in 3 shifts. 

This is creating direct and indirect jobs, especially for youth and women. Access to low-interest credit, tax relief, and markets through Ghana enterprises agency and district industrialization agenda. 

Engaged Organized Labour early to agree fair adjustments in line with cost of living. Government is working with TUC to protect pensions and expand coverage to informal workers. 

Registration drives for market women, drivers, artisans, and gig workers to give them social protection and access to credit. 

Construction projects directly employ masons, welders, painters, drivers, and labourers in communities. 

Direct Jobs at the Community Level Construction of stadiums, AstroTurf’s, and sports centres gives jobs for youth in Upper East, North East, Savannah. 

Dr Edem Segbefia noted that maintenance, security, cleaning, and event management roles at facilities give daily income. Grassroots talent is identified early and linked to coaching, refereeing, sports science, and management careers. 

More teams mean more players, coaches, kit managers, and scouts earning a living. Community cohesion and political capital when a constituency gets an AstroTurf or inter-school competition, youth gather, party structures are activated, and NDC gets visible credit. 

Sports events are natural mobilization platforms without the cost of big rallies. 

Health, Discipline and Reduced Social Vices Active youth are less likely to be engaged in crime or idleness. 

Parents see NDC as a party that keeps their children productively engaged. Charge gate fees, sell food, hire youth as stewards, referees, and MCs and register the income with the Branch. 

Push your youth to apply for the national apprenticeship programmed and sports directorate placements under YEA. 

Use new facilities as economic hubs rent AstroTurf’s on off days for community events, training, or small businesses. Encourage artisans to supply sportswear, footballs, and maintenance services to facilities. 

Mobilize for the 24-Hour Economy Identify youth in your branch who can work night shifts in factories, warehouses, or agro-processing plants under the policy. Work with MMDCEs to ensure your Branch members are first registered for skills and starter kits. 

Champion transparency and inclusion because national team budgets and recruitment are now public, grassroots can demand accountability and ensure “jobs go to the people they connected.” Document and report job opportunities created in your area to show NDC delivery.

 Build the NDC Sports and Jobs Brand “NDC Unity Games” in every constituency. Invite MPs, MMDCEs, and party leaders. It’s easier to talk about jobs when people are together and smiling. Celebrate every Upper East athlete or worker who benefits.

Share those stories in groups and community meetings. Comrade, the prestige of belonging to the ruling NDC is that we are the party that solved the most painful problem of our youth like jobs and dignity. 

When a mother in Zebilla sees her nurse daughter finally paid, when a father in Gambaga sees his son get tools to open his own shop, when a youth in Bolgatanga plays on a new AstroTurf and gets a job at the facility that family will never forget NDC. 

This gives us massive opportunities to stay in power for long, because we are touching the lives that matter most. Love from people, because a critical challenge is resolved. 

Support from the people. because youth are directly benefiting from NDC power. Smiles and Jubilation, because hope has returned to our homes.

The glory belongs to the people, and it belongs to the grassroots who worked for this victory. Comrade, let us go out and tell this story in every community, every market, every taxi rank, and every football park. NDC delivered Jobs. NDC restored Dignity. NDC is a party for youth.
