A three-week ban was placed on social gatherings as a result of the funeral rites of the late Divisional Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa Akyeampim Traditional Area.

Thousands of Youth from Breman Kokoso in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District of Central Region on Sunday, October 3, 2021, stormed the Palace of the Chief to protest against the ban on wake-keeping.

According to residents, the decision is a harsh one since the forbidden events by the traditional authorities has been in existence since time memorial.

The Chiefs and elders of Gomoa Nyanyano Traditional Council last Wednesday placed a three-week ban on social gatherings as a result of the funeral rites of the late Divisional Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa Akyeampim traditional area, Nana Dr Obeng Wiabo V, whose sudden death occurred on 24 August 2020.

Central Regional Soireenews Correspondent, Abusuapanyin Kojo Ahinful interview with the Leaders of the Youth, Alfred, Yaw Botwey and Niko expressed worries and the chief's intention to infringe on their fundamental right.

Assembly Man of Kokoso Electra area, Honourable Kofi Nkrumah told Soireenews that the decision by the Chiefs and elders is autocratic and banning such events without the knowledge of some opinion leaders of the town is unfortunate.

The Odikro of Breman Kokoso, Nana Tutu Aban III speaking on the issue called for tensions to be calmed down since the directive is from above (Breman Traditional Council) and nothing can be done.

Meanwhile, the youth have vowed to do everything possible to let the elders retrieve their decision.
