A petrol tanker has exploded and burnt almost half of Onyinanofo village at Ahafo Ano South-West District, killing three people; a driver, mate and a one and half year child.

The fuel tanker was heading to Tepa from Kumasi and failed to break on a curve as a result of over-speeding which led to its fall before blowing up on Monday, May 25, 2021, around 2:00 pm.

According to eyewitness reports, the situation was severe to the extent that seven houses were swept by the fire with the others partly burnt due to efforts by townsmen to control the blaze from causing severe havoc.

“I had returned from the farm and saw the tanker with speed,” Nana Atuahene narrated to Soireenews.

“there was a car loading ahead of him and as he plied a brake, it failed so he steered the car from crashing which drifted him off the road to a fall leading to an explosion.

“I run and shouting help because the situation was tough to watch.

“Three people have lost their lives and the incident has affected our living. What we will eat is a challenge. The majority of homes are burnt and we are calling for help from anyone.”

According to the people that spoke to Soireenews, a lot of residents at the Onyinanofo village have lost everything they worked for and if help does not come from the government and philanthropists, life will be tough for them in such a hardening season.

Another revealed that drivers most of the times lose control of their vehicles on the curve at the outskirt of the village therefore a rumble strip must be constructed to end the threats put up by uncooperative drivers.

“We had earlier prevented the fire from wrecking assets before the fire service arrived,” another said.

“That curve deceive many leading to accidents and its high time the leaders of the country do something about it. It’s either rumble strips are done or an appropriate solution is initiated.

The mother of the one and a half year deceased child, Linda Ahenasie narrated the sad ordeal and called on Ghanaians to come to their aid having lost everything has worked for.

“I left my son in the care of my husband for the farm nearby. On my way going, I heard a strange sound and turned to witness the heavy smoke so, through the bushes, I was able to get home.

“When I got to the middle of the town and seeing my house on fire, I perceived that my husband will not survive such an accident but I was told he was assisted by someone out but my sleeping child was burnt.

Everything I have is burnt and I have nothing to eat. I am appealing to people to come to my aid.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) were at the scene together with the Ghana Police and the Fire Service to access the situation.
