Two groups threatens massive demonstration over Deplorable Ahafo Roads

Two groups in the Ahafo region have called on President Nana Akufo to fix Goaso to Tepa Road and Hwidiem Kenyasi road in the region which is in the deplorable state to avoid a series of demonstration.

The groups are Care for Asutifi and #FixAhafoRoads.

Speaking at a press conference in Goaso, Mr. Emmanuel Obeng, Chairman of "Care for Asutifi" on behalf of the groups said all the meetings they held with Asutifi North District Chief Executive,  Ahafo Regional Minister, National Security Minister and Road Minister for thee roads to be fixed have proven futile hence their decision.
Emmanuel Obeng is also known as "Agabus" said the demonstrators who will be demonstrating in Hwidiem, Goaso, Kenyasi, and Ntotroso respectively intends to block Newmont Ahafo Mines and Government officials from going to work on the yet fixed a date.

Some shop owners, used clothes sellers, drivers, youth groups among others who were at the press conference also spoke shared their frustration with Soiree News Nana Anfreh Damanata.
According to them, the deplorable nature of their roads has been making life unbearable for them.
They want the government to as a matter of urgency come to their aid or face their wrath.
Kenyasi is the capital town of Asutifi North district while Hwidiem is the capital town of Asutifi South District. These two districts are close by a stone's throw.
The people are complaining about the bad nature of roads in the area not only the linking road from Kenyasi to Hwidiem but also roads around Ntotroso, Achirensua, Hwidiem and Kenyasi which could be constructed well as ring road linking these four big communities which also have a link to Sunyani and Kumasi highways.
According to the residents, they used to have good roads until Newmont Mining Company came to start mining in the Kenyasi-Ntotroso area.
The roads have spoilt to the extent that all the communities are at risk of breathing-associated diseases because of the dusty environment they now live in.
Meanwhile, the area is noted for agricultural produce aside from the gold mining.
The area is rich in the production of cocoa, coffee, foodstuffs like plantain, palm oil, cocoyam, and others in abundance to the capacity of transporting some to other regions and places of Ghana for sale.
