The Pope expresses regret for canceling his trip to Africa

Pope Francis has apologized to the DRC and South Sudan for postponing his July visits to both nations indefinitely due to health concerns.

On the 2nd to 5th of July, he intended to visit the DR Congo cities of Kinshasa and Goma before heading to the South Sudanese capital, Juba, for a two-day visit.

However, due to the 85-year-old pontiff's knee issue, the Vatican confirmed the postponement on Friday.

"With great regret, due to issues with my leg, I have had to postpone my tour to your nations," the pope addressed tens of thousands of people in St Peter's Square

He expressed the hope that the visits will be rescheduled "as soon as possible."

Due to reported pain in his right knee, the pope used a wheelchair for the first time during a public engagement in May and has had to postpone a planned trip to Lebanon this month.
