Gomoa Dominase onion traders in the Gomoa East District of Central Region have threatened to stage a massive naked demostration to register their displeasure against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for the current economic crisis which rocked them in the market.
According to the aggrieved traders, they couldn't fathom why President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government have failed to do something about the cedi depreciation against foreign currencies including dollar and CFA, the long unending situation, they claimed has affected their onion businesses and landed them into huge financial debts.
The traders, predominantly the women had threatened that if President Akufo-Addo failed to find lasting solution to solve the current economic challenges facing them, they have no option than to demonstrate or vote against the NPP government.
It is hingh time for the president to do something to stabilize the economy because the high rate of foreign currencies have been affecting our businesses," the onion traders stressed.
According to them, at first they bought a sack of onion at the cost of GH¢ 250 but now it has rose to GH¢550 and  GH¢ 600 and that this is  collapsing theirs businesses.
They pointed out that the big sack of onion is also sell at G¢1,500 which is very worrying.
For his part, the Executive member of Gomoa Dominase Onion Market Association, Alhaji  Alhassan also disclosed that, the high cost of onion is the cost of high rate of CFA which has increased everyday.
To this end, he pleaded with government to do something on the cedis depreciation lamenting the problem is affecting traders to purchase onions from the other countries.
