The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East Municipal Assembly in the Western Region, Honourable Elizabeth Dorcas Amoah, has moved with her team of Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) to ward off illegal small scale miners, otherwise known as galamseyers operating in the school premises in Kutukrom, which activities are adversely affecting academic work at the school.

The move by the female MCE and her followers is to complement an operation recently undertaken by the Operation Halt Two team of the Ghana Armed Forces to prevent illegal mining activities on water bodies and forest range reserves.

Madam Amoah who is very passionate about protection of environment and water bodies reaffirmed her outfit’s commitment to clamping down on the activities of illegal miners, especially on water bodies and forest reserves.

Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, the MCE disclosed that he has been hearing a report of illegal small scale mining activities being undertaken at Kutukrom right behind at the basic school in the centre of the town and "I moved in with my men to stop that menace."
According to Madam, he realized that the
school will be in trouble in case if any heavy downpour.
"When I heard the report through the Assembly man I made several calls to the acting chief of the area to help stop it because it was right in town. His explanation was that he has sent Kutukrom committee members to go and have a look. Apparently he knew everything about what was going on there.
"It took me to move a whole team of Nzema East Security Committee (MUSEC) to go and stop these illegal miners from damaging the school," Madam Dorcas told this reporter.
Against this background, the MCE has warned that her outfit would work with the security agencies to deal ruthlessly with persons found to have engaged in illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as “Galamsey.“

The illegal mining site, 100 meters from the school, produces noise, making it difficult for students to concentrate during class hours.
In a video chanced by Soireenews.com, as at the time the MCE visited the school premises , the illegal miners, were heard engaging in their activities with impunity on the water body and environment.
Information available to this reporter indicates that the teachers were compelled to shout at the top of their voices as the pupils kept complaining they could not hear, due to the noise from the huge “mining ” machines.
"The small-scale illegal miners also chat on top of their voices further aggravating the situation," the sources disclosed.
