The chiefs, queenmothers and other traditional office holders in the various traditional areas of the Assin North Constituency of the Central Region have reinforced Omanhene of the Dormaa Traditional Area in the Bono Region, Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II call on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to urge the Attorney General to end the trail of Assin North Member of Parliament (MP), Honourable James Gyakye Quayson.

The traditional rulers in the Assin North who made the call in a crowded press conference held on Tuesday July 4, 2023 stated that the discontinuation of the criminal prosecution of Gyakye Quayson would bring peace and development in the Assin North.

Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II made the appeal at the John Evans Atta Mills 10th Anniversary Commemorative lecture held in Sunyani.
“As a matter of urgency, I am appealing to the president of the republic that if he has any role to play in that trial should be aborted. The Attorney General should as a matter of urgency file a nolle prosequi to end that particular decision,” he stated.
Oseadeoyo Agyeman Badu II noted that the trial of James Gyakye Quayson will not bring any benefit to Ghanaians.
“Honestly, I don’t see the benefits this prosecution will bring Ghanaians. If he is in court, he can’t fulfil his mandate so the president and the Attorney General should do something urgently to end this matter, so we move on as Ghanaians,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr Quayson on Tuesday July 4, 2023 officially joined parliament after being elected as the Member of Parliament for Assin North in the by-election which made to garner 57.56% of the total votes cast.
He took the oath of allegiance and the oath of a member of parliament to formalize his position.
The Speaker of Parliament of Ghana, Alban Bagbin, led the swearing-in ceremony in parliament.
Gyakye Quayson emerged the winner of the Assin North by-election held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
According to the Electoral Commission's announcement, James Gyakye Quayson garnered a total of 17,245 votes, representing 57.56% of the total votes cast.
His closest contender, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 12,630 votes, accounting for 42.15% of the votes.
Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) secured 87 votes, which represented 0.29% of the overall tally.
The by-election in Assin North was held to fill the parliamentary seat left vacant following a legal battle that questioned Quayson's eligibility to hold office due to dual citizenship concerns.
