The Western Regional Minister who also doubles as the Member of Parliament  (MP) for Takoradi Constituency, Honourable Kobina Okyere Darko Mensah has revealed that the contractor in charge of the long awaiting Takoradi to Tarkwa road is awaiting the final design from highways authorities before the commencement of the main road construction. 

The Minister said it's better to have a proper final road design before the construction starts than to reattained to the design as the construction begins. 

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Saturday, 4th September 2021, as part of his 2-day tour to the Western Region, cut the sod for the commencement of work on the reconstruction of the 67-kilometer Agona Nkwanta–Tarkwa road.

The road is being funded with a 95-million-euro facility from Deutsche Bank AG, Frankfurt, Germany, and the project is expected to be completed by 31st August 2024, which lasts for 36 months.

Almost nine months after the sod cutting, the contractor has only cleared the shoulders of the road and this has ginger the anger of the residents of the region to speak ill about the government anytime the ply on the road.

Reacting to this, the Western Regional Minister said, the road is of the topmost priority to the Western region and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government so we should all stay calm as the construction is awaiting the final design and works will start very soon.

The Western Regional Minister in an interview when the Newly elected Western Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party held a thanksgiving service following its successful regional delegates conference.

The service was to thank God for his protection and grace during the time they were campaigning to canvass votes from the delegates.

A prayer was said for the new executives by the main celebrant of the star of the sea Catholic school in  Takoradi to attract God's guidance and wisdom for the executives.

The Western Regional Chairman of the party, Francis Ndede Siah after the church service, called for unity among all the party members to become a stronger force to break the 8 come 2024 general elections.
