The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North, Honourable Joseph Kwame Kumah, has called on the speaker of Parliament to act on the numerous road accidents on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway.

He made the call on the floor of Parliament seeking immediate action from the speaker and the house to address the issue since that stretch of road have been claiming the lives of Ghanaians for far too long.

According to him, he believes both the majority and minority in the house will throw their weight behind his petition without any partisan biases because those who die along that road as a result of the road are all Ghanaians supporting the numerous political parties in the country.

Hon. Joseph Kumah revealed that what pushed him to do the write-up was the latest incident on the Kintampo-Tamale Highway on the 31st of May, 2021, which involved a trailer and three passenger buses.

He assured his constituents and the country at large that during his tenure of office, he will ensure that proper measures are put in place "to preserve our human capital especially along the Kintampo-Tamale Highway."

He further said he suggested to the floor of the House to enact a law that will help in preventing road accidents along that route.

He revealed that all road markings along the highway have faded and they should be repainted, all damaged road signs should be repaired and most importantly, there should be a rest stop at Kintampo where all drivers from the long journey will be forced to rest for at least an hour to refresh their body and mind for the journey ahead.

Honurable Kumah further said the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin has referred to three parliamentary committees to discuss the issue he presented to the floor and submit a report to the house in the next two weeks.
