The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has placed blame at the doorstep of the government for the delay in the presentation of the 2022 budget statement.

Ghanaians waited several hours for a presentation of the budget statement which was earlier scheduled for 10 am on Wednesday, November 15 only for it to be presented at about 1 pm.

Questions, thus, arose as to why Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta delayed in presenting the statement. Other reports suggested that the Speaker, at the conclave was demanding too much in budgetary allocation from the executive.

However, at a two-day post-budget workshop for MPs over the weekend, the Speaker who did not take the issue lightly lamented the Presidency has failed to collaborate with the legislature.

According to him, after his earlier demand for a 2 per cent budgetary allocation from the executive, the President failed to respond to a letter that was sent to his office.

He thus demanded answers from the Minister which were unsatisfactory to him.

He also urged the house to take advantage of his Speakership to redeem bring back public confidence in the legislature.
