Burkina Faso PM reshuffles ministers amid protests

Only two weeks after the creation of the new cabinet, the interim prime minister of Burkina Faso replaced two ministries.

A order that was read aloud on national television on Wednesday replaced the ministers in charge of land and housing, industry, and trade.

Traders' associations opposed Donatien Nagalo's selection as the country's trade minister, claiming that as the former leader of the nation's national union of traders, he had engaged in unethical behavior.

Serge Gnaniodem Poda, a BCEAO executive and the current holder of the common regional currency, has taken his place.

Mikailou Sidibé takes the position of Yacouba Dié, whose appointment as minister of lands and housing had also been contested due to a flurry of demonstrations regarding the alleged subpar execution of a prior government housing project.

On October 25, Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambéla established the first military transitional administration under Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

He had defended the appointment of the two ministers before removing them by claiming that a background check had turned up no evidence against them.
