Miss Rwanda's organizer has been arrested on suspicion of sex assault.

According to police, the organizer of the Miss Rwanda beauty pageant has been detained on charges of sexually assaulting competitors.

Dieudonné Ishimwe, the CEO of Rwanda Inspiration Back Up, the firm that organizes the competition, was arrested just a month after the event.

Mr. Ishimwe has yet to respond to the charges leveled against him.

The Miss Rwanda pageant is one of Rwanda's most popular events.

Four girls who competed last year and this year made complaints to detectives before his arrest, according to an employee of the organizing business.

"He was detained on Monday while the case was still being investigated," she told the BBC on condition of anonymity.

According to local media, Mr. Ishimwe "is suspected of sexual assault accusations against Miss Rwanda finalists on multiple occasions," according to a state investigator.

In Rwanda, inducing sex activities "by force, threats, deceit, or the use of authority over that person" can result in a sentence of up to 15 years in jail.

Miss Rwanda 2019's spokesman, who is also the winner of Rwanda Inspiration Back-Up, resigned last week.
