Burundi parliament approves new prime minister

The nomination of Gervais Ndirakobuca as prime minister by President Évariste Ndayishimiye was approved by the Burundian parliament by a unanimous vote.

The president's suggestion to remove the current Prime Minister Alain Guillaume Bunyoni received support from all 113 lawmakers present at the Wednesday morning session.

The dismissal was not explained during the 30-minute meeting.

President Ndayishimiye recently asserted that "certain strong individuals" were plotting against him, but he vowed to "fight them."
