A 20-year-old student of Hilla Liman Senior high school met his untimely death in the rain.

Rain lightning has struck a student of Hilla Liman Senior high school to the dead in Gwollu in the Sissala West District of the Upper West region.

The deceased identified as Daana Gbene Mustapha, 20 year old, is a student of General Arts 2E who hails from Kulfuo in the Sissala East District.

A source at the school revealed that “When it started raining, the deceased was seen in the rain running to the dormitory from the classroom when the lightning struck, burning the attire he wore and the rubber bucket he held killing him instantly”.

Also, Amadu Zenab, a General Arts student who was in the dormitory during the rains got electrocuted and fainted in the process but was rushed to the Gwollu government hospital for medical attention.

Dr Yawson Prince Etornam, the Medical Director of the Gwollu Hospital who confirmed the death of Mustapha to the press attributed it to shock caused by the lightning, which led to the irregular heartbeat and cardiac arrest of the deceased".

A rainstorm a few months ago destroyed properties including structures in the Gwollu township with some dormitories and school facilities of the Hilla Liman Senior High school affected.

Aside from the lighting, recent rains have left most parts of the Sissala District flooded.
