The Kumasi City Markets Traders Union have petitioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to come to their aid and resolve the relocation challenges they are facing since their evacuation from the Central Market last month.

According to them, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has overlooked their stance and every plea to make available a temporal place of settlement has fallen on deaf ears hence their appeal to the King to step in the matter.

“We are not against the progress of Kumasi yet if something is not right, we have every right to speak it,” the Secretary of the Kumasi City Markets Traders Union, Mr Richard Boamah told Soireenews.

“It's almost a month now since we were evacuated by the KMA from the Central Market without any place to relocate. We have formally requested the KMA to get us a place yet all have fallen on death ears so we thought it wise to consult the King, the owner of Asanteman to put things in the right way,” he added.

Mr Richard Boamah asserted that politicians have betrayed the Kumasi City Markets Traders Union following their electoral commitment towards their course. He expressed that he sees the traditional leaders as people who stand for the progress of Asanteman and are attentive to matters without partiality, unlike the government stakeholders. He confided that Nananom’s decision on the situation will put the case to bed to pave way for them to carry on with their trade following weeks of uncertainties in the hands of politicians.

“We have dealt with politicians and have known them very well. We acknowledge Nananom for their impartiality. They respect persons regardless of your status and seek the development of Asanteman.

“We have hope that something better will come out from Manhyia. Our message to our colleagues is to be at ease, for Manhyia will locate a place for our trade."

He also debunked reports that they went to the Manhyia Palace to indict the Kumasi Mayor, Honorable Osei Assibey Antwi for his removal as reported by some media outlets. Mr Boamah opened that every comment he has made about the Mayor is his personal dialogue without the involvement of the association.

He frankly detailed that the KMA boss has 'tarnished the reputation of the New Patriotic Party and his government' through his inability to resolve the allocation challenges of traders.

He affirmed that he is not calling for the sack of the Mayor yet in an honest opinion, he believes the Mayor has performed below pal.
