The Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw II, urged the entire populace to embrace the Green Ghana Project because it is a sure banker in restoring our degraded forest and also protect our water bodies.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan in collaboration with the Forestry Commission and the Techiman Traditional Council officially launched the Green Ghana Project in the region.

The short but colourful event was held at the Tano River basin at Manprusiline, a suburb of the Techiman South Municipality. 

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Bono East Coordinating Council led by the Regional Minister, Hon. Kwasi Adu Gyan, representatives from the Municipal Assembly and a section of the Techiman Traditional Council steered by Nana Owusu Agyare II, Akwamuhene for the traditional council, staff from the regional Forestry Commission, Techiman Timber Market Association and other cooperating institutions.

Addressing the gathering, the Bono East Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Mrs Lucy Amo Ntim said, the launching of the Green Ghana Project is in line with the International Day of Forest, which is used to spell out the importance of trees and the protection of our forest. 

She acknowledged the presence of all the stakeholders who joined the commission and the launching and planting of trees. She revealed the target of the Bono East Forestry Commission is to plant 300,000 trees across the region.

She finally urged all and sundry to partake in the planting of trees since the existence of mankind depends on trees.

Hon. Adu Gyan, applauded the Techiman Traditional Council for their participation in the Green Ghana Project, a gesture he believes will encourage others to also come on board.

Comparing the population of the region, the Regional Minister encouraged at least four people to join in planting a tree in the region.

Hon. Adu Gyan, further stated that the planting of the trees will not only beautify the region but it will also go a long way in addressing the challenges facing the country as a result of deforestation.

On behalf of the Omanhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw II, the Akwamuhene of Techiman, Nana Owusu Agyare II, commanded His, Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Forestry Commission for such good initiative.
