Timber Merchants in the Ahafo Region have made a passionate appeal to President Nana Akufo-Addo to appoint Ahafo native to head Forestry Commission.

According to the group, the Ahafo region contains most of the forest reserves in the country so it would be good to have someone from Ahafo Region to head the Commission.

Speaking in Goaso at Press Conference, Mr. Yaw Fosu (a.k.a Kabila) the leader of the group said, in 2017 President Nana Akufo-Addo appointed Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo as Cocoabod Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and he has been able to handle Cocobod well because he hailed from cocoa growing area and was ones in the field.

“We believe that a native from Ahafo Region can manage the affairs of the Forestry Commission better.

The Concerned Timber Merchants pledged to support and abide by all rules abiding forestry Commission to end illegal chain saw operations in the Region.

The Forestry Commission’s function is to create, protect and manage the permanent forest estates and protected areas in the various ecological zones of the country to conserve Ghana’s biophysical heritage, prepare and implement integrated forest and wildlife management plans for the maintenance of the environment to the benefit of all segments of society and to regulate the harvesting of timber, wildlife, and other non-timber forest products among others.
