Ghana’s insecurity, blame government not IGP”-Dormaa West MP

Member of Parliament for Dormaa West Constituency and ranking member on works committee of parliament, Honourable Vincent Oppong Asamoah has said the government should be blamed for insecurity in the country instead of the Inspector General of Police(IGP) James Oppong Buanu.

According to the MP, the government has failed to resource the police service hence their inability to function well; a situation he describes as worrying saying if care is not taken, Ghana may be subjected to more crimes and attacks.

Hon Vincent Oppong Asamoah wants the Interior and defence ministers to advise the government to rather provide the necessary tools and equipment to enable the police to perform to satisfaction.

The country has witnessed the killing of police officers and civilians over the past few months. Reports suggest some officers sometimes commit suicide, notwithstanding, there have been reckless attacks on bullion vans.

Already, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, has come under criticisms over growing insecurity in the country with a number of security analysts calling for his dismissal.

But the former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister and MP for Dormaa west want the government to make matters relating to security its priority to safeguard the nation from more attacks.
