A collaborative effort by the Ga South Municipal Assembly (GSMA) and the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly (WGMA) in the Greater Accra Region to remove silt from the Atala Stretch of the Accra to Kasoa highway, has been completed.
The deposit of silt on that stretch as a result of mudslides during the recent downpour on Saturday, 21st May 2022, and Tuesday, 24th May 2022.
The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the Urban Roads Departments of both the GSMA and WGMA had to be called in to assist in the exercise.
Ninety-seven (97) trips of silt had to be evacuated from the road from Monday, 23rd May 2022 to Wednesday, 25th May 2022, to finally clear the road to ease the traffic.
The government is doing everything possible to solve the situation.
A contract has been awarded, with the contractor on-site, to construct a storm drain on that stretch.
So far, about forty (40) meters of the box culvert have been constructed from the outfall (Korkordjor) towards the traffic lights.
The contractor, Ellbus Company Limited, is, currently, relocating utility lines to make way for the storm drain ( six meters in diameter).
Commuters on the stretch are, therefore, urged to exercise a little patience as the situation is worked on.
