Players celebrate Giroud's opener

Chelsea have heightened their top-four chances following a pulsating 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday at Selhurst Park.

The Blues are been chased strongly by in-form Manchester United and a win was needful to cement Lampard’s chances of seeing Europe next season.

The manager and former player fielded youngster Billy Gilmour in place of the injured N'Golo Kante as Jorginho was make to do once more with a place on Chelsea's substitutes' bench.

Roy Hodgson started with Scott Dann in defense ahead of Sakho while Jaïro Riedewald made way for Cheikhou Kouyaté in two changes from the hosts.

The visitors took the lead on six minutes when Willian surged down the right and squared for Olivier Giroud. Mamadou Sakho replaced the injured Cahill following a hamstring which along the line contributed to Giroud’s goal.

Palace responded with heaviness but couldn’t knock Chelsea before Pulisic doubled the lead 21 minutes later.

Willian was involved again from midfield, he played a give-and-go with Olivier Giroud before bringing in Pulisic down the left. Ward showed him inside as the American moved the ball onto his left foot and hammered it past Guaita at his near post.

Seven minutes later, Wilfried Zaha rocketed a shot into the top corner to halve the deficit.

Substitute Tammy Abraham's cool finish put Chelsea 3-1 ahead with 19 minutes left but a minute later, Christian Benteke converted Patrick van Aanholt's center to reduce the arrears again.

The home side pushed for an equalizer and in stoppage time, Scott Dann's header for the Eagles was touched on to the post by Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Crystal Palace are 14th, on 42 points, while Chelsea leapfrog Leicester City, who play Arsenal later on Tuesday night and go third with 60 points.
