Domaa Poultry Farmers Request Equipment For A Veterinary Laboratory That Has Been Completed But Abandoned For Over 18 Years.

The Dormaa Poultry Farmers Association has reiterated its request to the government to equip a building set aside for use as a veterinary laboratory in Dormaa Ahenkro with the necessary logistics for poultry bird diagnosis.

They bemoaned the fact that "the long-overdue provision of equipment" was crippling the chicken industry in the area.

They added that when disease outbreaks occur, they must invest additional costs, time, and money by traveling to Kumasi and occasionally Accra to diagnose sick chicken birds.

Mr. Dei Kusi, Chairman of the Dormaa Poultry Farmers Association, appealed when receiving Bono Regional Minister Justina Awo Banahene during her visit to the 18-year-old abandoned veterinary laboratory in Dormaa Ahenkro, which was founded by former president John Agyekum Kuffour.

He suggested that the structure, which was built in 2004, could be used to scientifically detect sick animals to provide better prescriptions if it was fully equipped.

In an interview with our regional correspondent Mark Asante, the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Idrissa Outtarra, stated that the Dormaa Municipal Assembly will provide the facility with electricity and water.

Poultry farmers, he claimed, travel to KNUST or Sunyani to get their birds diagnosed.

He stated boldly that several organizations have approved their proposal to assist and equip the hospital.

Justina Awo Banahene, Bono Regional Minister, has this to say.
