Ghana Water Company Limited has commissioned a technology and innovation laboratory at the GWCL East Accra Regional office near the 37 Military Hospital with an assurance to provide safe and affordable drinking water to its large customers in the country.

The office which was equipped with modern laboratory machines would help offer total technology solutions with an ultra-modern digital Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition  System (SCDAS).

Addressing journalists at the commissioning of the office, the Manager in charge of Non- Water Revenue, Mr Maxwell Akosah Kusi stated that the company has deployed more innovation plans to achieve its target of improving water security, health care and the water safety of the stakeholders and customers.

He noted that currently there have been more improvements in the connection of the water metering systems of the customers, saying that the company moved from 30 to 100 metering systems to save its potential customers.

For his part, the Managing Director (MD) of GWCL, Engineer Dr Clifford A. Braimah stated that they are working hard to ensure of saving all its customers of the country, saying that the commissioning of the telemetry control room and metering laboratory would supplement its vision to be a world-class utility service providers.

According to him, to be a world-class quality water producer required great reforms and a renewed sense of direction.

In order to facilitate this change in GWCL, technology and the innovative department was created four years ago to leverage the power of innovative technology to improve the business processes and expand the impact of shared management information.

Since then, he said the GWCL has deployed about 100,000 ultrasonic smart metres with drive by and remote reading capacities, adding that "we have built two new geographical information system offices and refurbished. 13 offices across the country.

"We have also provided our customers with the state of the art tools to allow for capturing and management of all GWCL assets in a virtual space," Dr Braimah revealed.

He disclosed the company when he assumed office has implemented a robust cybersecurity system to protect its critical IT infrastructure, extended high-speed internet via fibre optic network to all the GWCL's regional treatment plants and most of its district offices.

"We have also acquired, with the support of waterwork, some unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) with imaging capabilities to monitor our water resources and some field data capturing," he noted.
