Coup Plot At Kristo Asafo: Two Lawyers And Council Of Elders Linked To Gunshot Attack On Adjoa Safo
The report indicates that the former Member of Parliament was shot after opposing both the succession of her late father, Apostle Emeritus Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, and the takeover of church assets by senior officials, including her brother Nana Kwadwo Safo.
There are allegations of a plot within the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana—a prominent African Initiated Church and socio-economic movement founded by the late Apostle Emeritus Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka—following the reported shooting of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Honourable Sarah Adjoa Safo.

The violence reportedly occurred at the early hours of Sunday at Kwabenya at the residence of Nana Kwadwo Safo, one of the son of the late Apostle Kojo Safo, during a family gathering when gunmen allegedly opened fire on Hon. Adjoa Safo for coming to interfere with the installation of Nana Kwadwo Safo which has earlier been restrained by a court process filed against Nana Kwadwo Safo and some members of the Council of Elders of the church.
The report indicates that the former Member of Parliament was shot after opposing both the succession of her late father, Apostle Emeritus Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, and the takeover of church assets by senior officials, including her brother Nana Kwadwo Safo.
An individual close to the family claims that the attack was not masterminded by Nana Kwadwo Safo alone but with some particular lawyers in whom are close confidants of the late Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka..
Intelligence gathered indicate that the some top church officials and members of the Council of Elders were also the brains behind the orchestrated violence directed at the prominent female politician Hon Adjoa Safo.
Honourable Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment following shooting directly to her sitting position in her SUV Toyota Land Cruiser , at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo on Sunday June 21, 2026.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the former legislator was at the property when gunshots were fired directly into her car amid heightened tensions linked to an ongoing leadership succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo movement following the death of their father Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
Witnesses claim that armed individuals opened fire during a gathering reportedly organised in support of efforts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as successor to the late founder.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that approximately 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged directly into the former legislators car and directly at her sitting position in the car .
Sources close to Hon. Adwoa Safo allege that one of the bullets grazed her near the neck. She was subsequently taken for medical attention and is said to be in critical condition while doctors continue to battle for life for her to regain consciousness.
The incident comes against the backdrop of a growing dispute within the Kristo Asafo family over succession arrangements following the death of their father Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
The matter has reportedly generated legal challenges, with some family members contesting attempts to elevate Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena to the leadership of the organisation.
The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting and establish the facts of the case.
Sources allege that the young man has misunderstanding with his father, leading to his removal from the chairmanship of Kantanka, a position reportedly handed to Hon. Adwoa Safo before the passing out of the late Apostle Kojo Safo Kantanka.
This is the catalyst for the ongoing dispute, with the brother challenging the decision alongside certain Council of Elders within the church.
According to the same sources, the son, Kwadwo Safo, has struggled with substance abuse for several years, prompting the late Apostle Kojo Safo to import medication from India for his treatment prior to his death.
Against this background, politicians, chiefs, diplomats, the international media, and opinion leaders are urging the Chief Justice, the Ghana Bar Association, and law enforcement agencies to fully enforce the law in this particular matter.
They view this as a crucial test case against some influential individuals in our society who take the country's laws into their hands and maneuver to get away with it by using their political influence after they are found culpable of the offense they deliberately organized to commit.
These groups allegedly believe they can use their status to influence the President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice, the Inspector General of Police, and media personalities who might be paid to raise unnecessary arguments in their favor to prescribe this particular case involving some lawyers as a foolish case.
The public and stakeholders maintain that the time is now for law enforcement agencies to put this illegality to the test and act meticulously and apply the punitive measures it may deserve as enshrined in our constitution without prejudice.
For it has always been the adage to spare the rod and spoil the child and this time all eyes are watching.
However, in a response, the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has accused Honourable Sarah Adwoa Safo of misleading the public by creating the impression that she sustained gunshot wounds during the enstoolment ceremony of its new leader.
In a statement, the church said the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, at its Kwabenya property after a lawful church event.
According to the mission, Ms. Safo arrived at the venue and forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates, striking and causing substantial damage to two metallic gates.
“At the time of the incident, numerous worshippers and invited guests were present within the premises, including individuals seated in close proximity to the entrance,” the statement said.
The mission added that the act posed a serious risk to life and property, noting that security personnel intervened to prevent further escalation.
The church said it has taken note of unverified media reports and social media claims that Ms. Safo was shot by her brother during the incident.
“We categorically reject these allegations as false and misleading. To the best of our knowledge and based on information presently available to us, no such shooting occurred,” it stated.
The Kristo Asafo Mission is calling on authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident.
It also urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified social media reports and to allow law enforcement to establish the facts through due process.
The mission reiterated its commitment to peace, truth, the rule of law, and the safety of all persons who attend its events.
