Central Region: Kasoa Awutu senya east Assembly evacuates traders from new market bus terminal.

Evacuated traders trading at a supposed park designated for a transport terminal at the Kasoa New Market.

The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly in the central region today has evacuated traders trading at a supposed park designated for a transport terminal at the Kasoa New Market.  According to the assembly, the activities of the traders are a major contributing factor to traffic congestion during market days on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The exercise which commenced around 2:00 am today saw the demolition of all temporal structures and tents at the terminal leaving no single trader. The assembly says it is to ease the traffic congestion during scheduled market days at the new market. But some traders disagree arguing that it is as a result of the ongoing construction of stores saying, if their operations are causing traffic congestion, certainly the completion of the stores will still cause congestion and that is just to move them from the current location for their parochial interest.

Municipal Engineer, Mr. Isaac Ofori, who spoke to Soireenews said, the area was purposely designated for transport operations. He noted that the traders own stalls in the market, however, despite the evacuation, the assembly has allocated vast and specious areas for trading activities and has made provisions for traders without stalls.

Information gathered indicates that the majority of these traders migrated from the old Kasoa Market with the hope that the assembly will ensure other traders also move to the new market but that has proven futile.
The leadership of the traders laments that the designated area is far from the street making it difficult for buyers to patronize their goods resulting in low daily sales.

Some other traders also spoke to  Soireenews.
