The Sunyani Municipal Disease Control Officer in charge of Covid-19 testing, Mr Mansure Zachariah, have blamed their inability to conduct retesting after two weeks of proving positive and treatment on lack of funds and logistics.

He was speaking in an interview on Ark in the Morning monitored by Soiree News, the Royal Servant, said the lack of proper care and the surge in Covid-19 cases among health workers and relatives in the Bono Region.

Mr Mansure recounted that the right way for testing “is supposed to be conducted after detecting a positive case in the virus for working colleagues and families but due to lack of adequate funds, this norm is not practised”.

Speaking about contact tracing, which was one of the measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus, he said in view of the surging number of cases it would be impossible to trace all their contacts because of challenges they face.

He noted that there were about 305 cases in the month of July alone, making tracing quite impossible as some of the victims also resist being identified for fear of stigmatization.

Asked if the remains of the deadly virus can be swept out of the system of recovered individuals, Mr Mansure denied knowledge of such, with the explanation that that “it is a matter of the strength of the immune system, as the right thing to do is to take care of the pain and other related symptoms by taking painkillers and other drugs but the immune system does the cleansing”.
