Adomah Kidneycare Foundation Calls For Increased awareness And Prevention Of kidney Disease

Nana Abena Dwumah Sika, Kyidomhemaa of Asante Bekwai, has urged Ghanaians to take kidney disease seriously and make regular health screening a priority.

Nana Abena Dwumah Sika, who disclosed that she underwent dialysis about 10 years ago before receiving a kidney transplant, said she was proud to share her experience to create awareness about kidney disease.

According to her, kidney disease is increasingly affecting people across different age groups and can be difficult to detect because it often develops without obvious symptoms.

She encouraged the public to undergo regular medical check-ups, preferably at least twice a year, and to seek medical attention whenever they notice changes in their health.

The President and Founder of the PrimeLife Kidney Foundation, Ebenezer Henaku, has called on Ghanaians to pay greater attention to their kidney health amid concerns over the rising prevalence of kidney disease in the country.

Speaking during the Asante Bekwai Health Walk and Outreach 2026, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Amansie Nsroma, Mr. Henaku said the increasing cases of kidney disease make public education, early risk identification and community advocacy essential.

He stressed that there was no need to wait until kidney disease becomes widespread before taking preventive action.

This is because, treatment of kidney disease to keep up, (Haemodialysis), especially in Ghana is very expensive. Aside medications and sometimes treatments of infections if possible.

According to him, the Foundation is committed to working with communities to create awareness and promote measures aimed at identifying kidney disease risks early.

Mr. Henaku noted that the kidneys are vital organs that perform important functions in the human body and urged individuals to take proper care of them on a daily basis.
