Deplorable school building

The lives of over 257 pupils and teachers of Camp Junction Basic Primary School in the Western North Region are been threatened by their old school building which has become a death trap and needs urgent attention.

The school located in the Bia East District was part of the fumigation exercise initiated by the Government of Ghana and the Education Ministry across schools in the country to help curb the novel pandemic ahead of school reopening. The nature of the brick house requires urgent attention within days to avoid exposing lives to threats through the negligence of authorities responsible for the welfare of the pupil and the teachers.

A concern former teacher of the school took a picture during fumigation to question school and district authorities regarding how high they esteem life, willing to watch pupils enjoy school lessons in the weakened four walls.

The former teacher raised a concern that the aged structures need maintenance, whilst the stripped off roofs and cracked walls need to be fully restored. He, however, stressed that any rainstorm will pull down the entire structure hence the need to relocate the children and fully embark on renovating the building.

The MP is reported to have offered to help the community two years ago by providing books and furniture and also donated 50 bags of cement during the campaign period yet the community have not been able to raise funds for sand and stones and the workmanship of workers.
