Volta Regional Minister Receives Official Invitation To 70th Mepe Afenorto Festival Grand Durbar
This year's annual festival, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, was under the theme, 'Unity, Investment, and Sustainable Development in the Aftermath of the Akosombo Dam Spillage Disaster.
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has received an official invitation to grace the 70th edition of the annual Mepe Afenorto Festival, celebrated by the chiefs and people of Tongu Blotsi.
This year's annual festival, held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, was under the theme, 'Unity, Investment, and Sustainable Development in the Aftermath of the Akosombo Dam Spillage Disaster.
The Minister was very excited about the invitation and gave assurances to the chiefs and queen mothers of his commitment to participate in the festival with them.
A delegation of Mepe chiefs, made up of executives from the Mepe Development Association (MDA), and the District Chief Executive for the North Tongu District Assembly, Mr Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, briefed the Minister on the festival's primary objectives and what they intended to achieve.
They also presented the official invitation and shared this year's festival theme, which focuses on unity, investment, and sustainable development in the aftermath of the Akosombo Dam spillage disaster which occurred on September 15, 2023.
The Volta Regional Minister happily accepted the invitation, commended the choice of theme, and encouraged the traditional authorities and the people of Mepe to continue fostering peace, unity, and development.
The Minister called upon the chiefs and other traditional office holders in Mepe to contribute their quota to the development of the area and the Volta Region as a whole.
Mr. Gunu, who doubles as the Chairman of the Volta Regional Security Council (REGSEC), indicated his commitment to continuing to work closely and actively with the chiefs and people of Mepe to help restore security, peace, unity, and development.
