Trader, 40, is in police custody for causing harm to a 4-year child

The Ashaiman Circuit court within the Ashaiman Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has remanded a 40-year-old trader for causing harm to a 4-year baby.

Agnes Nukururu, the trader, unlawfully and intentionally placed the victim, Abigail Opoku aged 4 years in a pan containing boiled water causing severe burns and wounds to her vagina, buttocks, and toes.
The court presided over by His Lordship, Richard Delali Anku ordered the victim, Abigail Opoku to be sent to the hospital for medical attention while the accused, Agnes Nukururu was remanded in police custody for further investigations to reappear on May 28, 2022.
In the case involving the Republic vrs Agnes Nakururu, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
Presenting the fact of the case, Detective-PW-Chief Inspector Helena Ofosuhene briefed the court that the complainant, Fuseina Salifu aged 32 who is an unemployed and the biological mother of the victim, Abigail Opoku aged 4 living at Ashaiman Official Town while the accused person, Agnes Nukuru aged 40, a trader who also lives at Gbetsile near Ashaiman and a sister-in-law to the complainant.

She said during September 2021, the complainant got a job at Ashaiman and she needed to relocate so she asked the accused person to take temporal custody of the victim which she agreed.
Some weeks later, she added that the complainant called the accused person on phone to check up on them and promised to visit them, but the accused person told her not to come that she had traveled.
Inspector Helena Ofosuhene said in December of 2021, the complainant defiled the orders and paid a surprised visit to the accused person and found out that, the victim had wounds on her buttocks, vagina, and toes.
Inspector Ofosuhene disclosed that the complainant confronted the accused person but she revealed to her that the victim had diarrhea so she placed her in a pan containing boiling water which caused her severe burns.
The complainant, according to Inspector Ofosuhene, was not happy with what she saw but the accused person pleaded with her and promised to take the victim to a hospital for treatment.
She further said in February 2022, the complainant had information that the accused person did not take the victim to any hospital but rather to a pharmacy shop near her house.
She said a complaint was later lodged to the Domestic violence and Victim Support Unit(DOVVSU)Ashaiman which led to the arrest of the accused person.
She said a Police Medical Report form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital but she could not afford the medical bills.
She said that the accused person was cautioned and after investigations, she was charged and arraigned before this honorable court.
