The Vice President of the Bono Chapter of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, Miss Sirina Mahamadu is pushing for employment equity for its members in the private institutions.

According to her, the Private Sector Companies in Ghana are reluctant to employ them even when most of us are qualified for the jobs.

She said they are being short-changed when it comes to employment within the Private Sector hence the need for the introduction of an employment equity policy to ensure that all companies reserve a quota of their recruitments for Person With Disabilities.

The employment rate for PWDs in the country according to Miss Sirina is very low hence the need for the government to take action.

She indicated although the private companies have been trained in handling PWD employees, they are still unwilling to offer them employment.
